Wavves have announced a new album, You’re Welcome, and shared two songs from it, “Daisy” and title track “You’re Welcome.” The album is due out May 19 via the band’s own Ghost Ramp label. The band have also announced some tour dates. Below are the two songs, followed by the album’s tracklist and the band’s upcoming tour dates. Above is the album cover.

You’re Welcome is the follow-up to 2015’s V, which was released by Warner Bros. (as was 2013’s Afraid of Heights). In a press release Wavves’ frontman Nathan Williams is less than complimentary about his experience on the major label. Williams admits that he and bassist Stephen Pope initially had no interest in signing to a major label, but allowed A&R people to take them out to expensive restaurants. “We were just trying to go to eat at nice places in LA,” says Williams in the press release. “There were a few people from majors who would not stop reaching out to us. They were obsessed. They thought we had heat and they needed an edgy big rock band like they used to have in the ‘90s. Me and Stephen were in our shitty apartments, Googling ‘nicest restaurants in LA.’ We went to eight or nine dinners. At the end we’d say, ‘not interested.’”

Warner Bros., however, made them an offer they couldn’t refuse. “We still owned all of our shit, which was the most important part for us. For them it was a shot in the dark.” But the press release states that being on Warner Bros. was “beyond their wildest nightmares.” Tired of delays, Williams posted V single “Way Too Much” to Soundcloud without approval from Warner Bros., which didn’t go over well with the label. The label also forgot to sign off on V‘s artwork.

“I figured it would run the same as [prior label] Fat Possum, just with more people. I was wrong,” explains Williams. “I’d never come in contact with such a poorly run company in my life. It was anarchy. Nobody knew what they were doing. Turnover rate was like an American Apparel. It was really all cons - unless you’re a cash cow. For everyone else, major labels can’t help you. Maybe at one time they could, but that time is dead.” And so Williams turned to his own label, Ghost Ramp, to release the new Wavves album. “I figured if these idiots could get by, we could do it a hundred times better.”

Nathan Williams is also in the band Sweet Valley with his brother Joel Williams. The brothers also recently designed a video game called Kill the Alt-Reich in which you punch alt-right proponent and white nationalist Richard Spencer. Spencer was famously punched in the face on Inauguration Day while being interviewed on camera.
