Yuck Frontman Preps LP Under New Moniker
'Forget' Due Out in June
Last summer, Yuck frontman Daniel Blumberg released a limited-edition cassette, Weakened, on Mirror Universe Tapes under the not-so-different moniker Yu(c)k. The music, however, was a complete 180 degree turn from the bubbly garage-rock tracks found on Yuck's self-titled debut LP. Although he's changed the name since last summer—from Yu(c)k to the possibly more head-scratching Oupa—Blumberg is picking up from where he left off last summer, leaving behind the pop and fuzz for stripped-bare piano ballads on Oupa's forthcoming LP Forget. Sparse, lucid, and inching along at a snail's pace, these tracks reveal Blumberg's brooding side from the inside out. Can't believe this garage-rock revivalist can seamlessly transform into a minimalist? Check out the title track below.
Blumberg announced today that Forget, which boasts a mere seven tracks, is slated for a June release. Before the album drops, Blumberg will be on the road with the rest of his Yuck bandmates as they make their way to Austin, Texas for this month's 2011 SXSW Festival, where he will be making his live debut as Oupa. Yuck also has several performances lined up at the fest, including the JanSport Presents the Under the Radar SXSW 2011 Party on Thursday, March 17 at the Flamingo Cantina.
