The tradition of the hanging-out movie continues with Greg Mottola’s Adventureland, which along with his previous effort, Superbad, joins the ranks of films such as Dazed and Confused and American Graffiti in which nothing much happens, but everything happens. While Adventureland is a much more introspective and not as laugh-out-loud funny as Superbad, it too is worth seeing for its winning performances and great music. The summer of 1987 sees James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) working at an amusement park, pining for Emily (Kristen Stewart), hanging with Joel (Martin Starr), hating on Mike (Ryan Reynolds), and trying not to laugh around bosses Bobby and Paulette (Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig). This all happens while songs from Falco, INXS, Big Star, The Cure, and David Bowie fill out the soundtrack. It will be no surprise for discerning viewers that Kristen Stewart (Panic Room, Into the Wild) totally nails her performance, leaving Twilight’s Bella in the dust. In addition to the film, you’ll find deleted scenes, a commentary with Mottola and Eisenberg, a making-of, and some ’80s-themed training videos for the park. This movie got lost in theaters, but is better suited for home viewing anyway. (www.BVHEBluray.com)

Very interesting post, don’t know the actual reason why this movie got lost in theaters but after going through your post it seems to be very funny. I will see this movie in my home theater and enjoy this Adventureland.

I loved Superbad. Laughed my head off. Adventureland was good too.
