An Irish drummer, Norwegian bassist, and Brazilian guitarist walk into a British music school. Out come All We Are, both the band and the album. Recorded by esteemed producer Dan Carey and inspired by a shared love for OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, this promising debut album is part indie dance rock and part psychedelic soul. Single “I Wear You” is the best bridge between the two: dreamy disco, sexually charged with catchy coos and a Prince-ian vocal staccato. “Keep Me Alive” is another swirling, moody piece of musical seduction: “I need ya, baby/To give me your love, to give me your love.”
If there’s a drag to this first record, it’s that it lacks many distinctive tent-pole tracks beyond the two previously mentioned. The album’s great vibe won’t quite hold up under close scrutiny, but when you step back and zone out you won’t find many reasons to fight its groove. (www.facebook.com/ThisIsAllWeAre)
