Bart Got a Room, written and directed by Brian Hecker, is a cautionary tale about high expectations. High school senior Danny (newcomer Steven Kaplan, channeling a young Woody Allen) can’t bring himself to ask his best friend, Camille (Alia Shawkat), to prom. Instead, he spends spring semester chasing after more attractive girls who won’t give him the time of day. Inexplicably, a big band soundtrack follows Danny everywhere as he bikes hither and yon in the muggy Miami heat, searching for love.

Bart Got a Room wants to be cute and a bit moralistic. As Danny learns, you can’t have it both ways.
