A sitcom-porno that lasted half a season in the mid-'90s. A movie whose cast-members seem cursed to die deaths strikingly similar to those of their characters, and the woman who uses their demises to chronicle her relationships. Another woman who inexplicablely begins to shrink and doesn't stop until she floats away like a mote on a current of air. These and more are the basis for a handful of short stories in Jillian Tamaki's stunning new graphic collection, Boundless. The eminently talented Tamaki (the force, along with her cousin, Mariko, behind the gorgeous This One Summer) follows her previous solo work, SuperMutant Magic Academy, with a book that is as poignant as it is introspective. More so, it is a stark reminder of Tamaki's versatility and undeniable skill as one of the leading artists in her field. Boundless no doubt refers to Tamaki's talent as an author and cartoonist, as much as it does the imagination behind each short chapter. (www.drawnandquarterly.com/boundless)
