I’m not a big fan of the term guilty pleasure, but Entourage is the very definition of it. The story of Hollywood actor/superstar Vinnie Chase, his three buddies, and his agent and the agent’s assistant has lumbered along for five seasons, and season five is now available on DVD, coinciding with the start of season six on HBO. Vinnie’s artistic pet project Medellin has turned out to be a critical and financial box-office disaster, and his career is on the ropes. Most of the season deals with Vinnie having a horrible time on a firefighter film that stars Jason Patric and is being made by an insane taskmaster director played to the hilt by Stellan Skarsgård. The best episode of the bunch is a journey into the desert that allows Jeremy Piven some choice moments, as agent to the stars Ari Gold loses his trademark confidence while tripping on LSD. In another inspired casting decision, the LSD is bought off of Eric Roberts.

The three-disc set includes scant extras. Three self-satisfied audio commentaries and a 10-minute featurette about the guest stars are as laid back and uncomplicated as the show itself. (http://www.hbo.com)
