The 2026 edition of Governors Ball packed a little bit of everything into three days at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, showcasing a festival landscape that increasingly mirrors the streaming era. The weekend delivered a balance of huge pop moments, rising indie and rock acts, and a major K-pop presence, with KATSEYE, Stray Kids, and JENNIE commanding massive crowds. While a severe storm cut Saturday short—forcing cancellations for acts like Kali Uchis and Amyl and the Sniffers — Stray Kids’ historic headline performance was moved forward and ultimately saved, affirming the global draw of K-pop in prime festival slots.

For Under the Radar readers, the festival’s strongest moments came from the artists shaping the current indie and alternative landscape. On Sunday, Japanese Breakfast delivered a remarkably graceful and serene dream-pop set. Frontwoman Michelle Zauner used the festival stage to joyfully debut her baby bump, playfully announcing to the cheering crowd that she was “Jpreggie” as her vocals floated effortlessly through the festival air.

Another standout was Blood Orange, whose set became one of the weekend’s most meaningful narrative arcs. Originally slated for Saturday, Dev Hynes was forced to reschedule due to the rain cancellations. The adjustment only heightened the anticipation, and Hynes delivered: moving effortlessly between instruments, he led his band through a deeply layered, soulful performance that culminated in a euphoric crowd sing-a-long to “Champagne Coast.”

Local talent also made a significant impact. Brooklyn’s own Geese played a triumphant homecoming show, tearing through a ferocious, chaotic set of post-punk that highlighted frontman Cameron Winter’s striking vocal range and the band’s off-kilter energy. Across the weekend, artists like Wet Leg brought their trademark bouncy, sardonic indie-rock charm to a highly engaged crowd, while Lorde and Slayyyter delivered sharp, confident pop performances.

The weekend came to a suitably theatrical close courtesy of Harlem native A$AP Rocky. Complete with pyrotechnics, SWAT-clad dancers, and a helicopter set piece, Rocky’s high-energy hometown finale continued right up to the festival’s curfew, ending with “Jukebox Joints” and sealing Governors Ball 2026 as a true New York celebration.
