Green Lantern: First Flight 2-Disc Special Edition
Studio: Warner Premiere

Warner Premiere follows up the very good Wonder Woman with one of their most disappointing efforts yet. Green Lantern: First Flight is an all too brief and overstuffed attempt to do animated justice to the comic book fan favorite character Green Lantern. At 77 minutes, the story of Hal Jordan and his run-in with an alien ring that gives him supernatural powers is too short a time to encapsulate the vast Lantern universe. Plus, we already saw some of this same content (done much better) in The New Frontier. The usually strong extras are lessened on this release in favor of promoting DC’s current Green Lantern sensation, Blackest Night. The most interesting extras are a Green Lantern-themed episode of Duck Dodgers, and best of all, the two-part The Once and Future Thing episodes of Justice League Unlimited, which features Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern traveling back in time to the Old West and having to deal with Jonah Hex and El Diablo, and then eventually going into the future to interact with members of the Batman Beyond cast. The episodes are superior to the main feature in every way.
