Davis Guggenheim shows his range and follows his Academy Award-winning global warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth with a documentary about three famous guitarists from three different generations. Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White are all profiled and speak of their love of the electric guitar and how it has shaped their lives. The triptych story features each musician at home showing off his oldest (and often first) guitar. This inside look at their surroundings is a music lover’s and voyeur’s dream. Just seeing Jimmy Page’s vinyl collection alone is enough to give you geeky shivers. In addition, we get to see The Edge at the school where the members of U2 formed, and Jack White hanging out with a younger version of himself (you’ll see). The loosely structured doc eventually has all three artists join up on a film soundstage to hang out and jam together. It’s a cool, unfussy movie that’ll appeal to music lovers of all ages. The Blu-ray has a ton of deleted scenes that are interesting and would have fit into a larger version of the film quite nicely. (www.sonypictures.com/bluray / www.SonyClassics.com)
