It’s hard to believe it hasn’t happened yet, but Kristine Meredith Flaherty (aka K. Flay) is about to hit the big time. Building on her already sophisticated and rousing blend of indie rock, electro, and hip-hop, K. Flay swings for the fences on Solutions by adding bouncy synth pop to the mix and hits it out of the park.

While previous albums were hit or miss with peaks and valleys, Solutions eliminates the valleys resulting in only peaks of super-charged pop rock. She hasn’t abandoned the hypnotic beats, bombastic bass, and visceral guitar rock that earned her a devoted following. Instead she uses it as a basis to create these pop-oriented gems.

But while Flay may have sweetened the music a bit, her lyrics are anything but sugarcoated. Delivered in her signature raspy voice that is somehow slinky, sultry, and snarly all at the same time, her words are sharp, biting, poignant, passionate, tender, and honest as she sings about adult topics that hit the listeners directly in the head, heart, and guts.

Solutions is the perfect musical joyride that features a clever mingling of styles and moods. The catchy bass and trippy beats percolate to a slow boil giving way to choruses of big screechy synths and sugary melodies before ending in a sweet simmer. These songs are jam packed with emotionally powerful lyrics, dynamic musical arrangements, and juicy ear-candied melodies that will linger in your head long after they stop playing.

K. Flay is a truly singular talent that is both innovative and entertaining and Solutions is poised to prove this point to the world. (www.kflay.com)
