Polygamy and conning drive this drama. James Wolk plays Robert/Bob Allen, born into a conman’s life and kept in it by his father (David Keith). Alarmingly young, disturbingly twinkly, and utterly slick, Robert routinely sells fictitious investments. He has an adoring live-in girlfriend played by the kittenish Eloise Mumford tucked away in a small town where he has conned the entire population. And he has the smooth perfection of his wealthy wife, played by the unflappable Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights). Invited into the family business by his crusty father-in-law (Jon Voight), Robert wants to go straight, much to the chagrin of his father. Turning over a new leaf does not happen overnight. As his small town con starts to unravel and Robert skips out on the advice of his father, he steals from his real job to pay off his fake job—and marries his girlfriend in the process. Despite the disappearance of his top lip when smiling, newcomer Wolk employs the same conman charm on the viewer. Rooting for both the wife and the girlfriend—maybe a little bit more for the latter, Lone Star has the makings for a sudsy tune-in. (www.fox.com/lonestar)
