Mosaics Within Mosaics

W. Cullen Hart’s latest Circulatory System LPa collage of Beatles-eque pop experiments and other sound scrapsoffers a handful of inspired snippets mired in too much sluggish, avant-garde muck. Highlights include the whimsical “Aerial View of a Heart (From Above)” and “If You Think About It Now”this project works best when Hart is dabbling in Sgt. Pepper/Kinks territory. Meanwhile, too many songs lack energy, and the low-key “Mosaics” instrumental interludesnumbered 1-8feel like half-hashed, unfinished songs. At 31 tracks, it’s an occasionally interesting but laborious listen; even guest contributions from Hart’s Elephant 6 compatriotsincluding John Fernandes, Jeremy Barnes, and Jeff Mangum (playing something called a wollensack balloon)hardly breathe any much-needed life into this outing.
