Oasis: (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?: Chasing the Sun Edition
Big Brother
Oct 02, 2014 Oasis
The impact of Oasis’ 1995-released second album is still prevalent today. Given the reissue treatment like its predecessor, the juiced up, remastered version accentuates the quality of this batch of songs. Sometimes hearing a remaster brightens the sound too much and thus takes away from the original grittiness of the track. Not here. Instead, the songs somehow manage to have even more life than the original, and the remaster adds sonic elements that couldn’t have been reached otherwise.
As for the extra goodies, they’re nothing that diehard Oasis fans likely haven’t heard before. The B-sides are mostly previously-released tracks from singles and the compilation album, The Masterplan, which was released in 1998. But what makes the set worthwhile are the live tracks and demos. The songs sound great in seemingly less than ideal settings such as Maine Road, the home of the Gallagher brothers’ beloved Manchester City Football Club; it demonstrates how strong a collection of songs What’s the Story? is. The largeness of these songs and the powerful punch they packed as both radio hits and Britpop anthems continues to resonate nearly 20 years after the fact. (www.oasisinet.com)
