Olympians: Apollo: The Brilliant One

First Second

Author/illustrator George O’Connor’s ongoing series of Greek mythology graphic novels continues with Apollo: The Brilliant One. Since the first volume of the collection hit shelves in 2010, Olympians has proven a consistent and admirable retelling of some of the most recognizable lore in human history. More importantly, O’Connor’s slim books are wondrous learning tools. Targeted for the 9-14 age range, and complete with a study guide and discussion questions in back, they’re a powerful incentive for students to read.

True to established form, this eighth installment of O’Connor’s rapidly expanding library focuses on the exploits of a single deityin this instance, Zeus’ prophetic son, Apollo, god of sun and light, music and poetry. O’Connor’s artistic style, combined with his fast-paced narrative, is likely to entice even the most reluctant reader to sit with Apollo from cover to cover. (www.olympiansrule.com)
