Rudo y Cursi Blu-ray

The easiest way to describe Rudo y Cursi is that it’s a passion project for everyone involved. The two stars, Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, give excellent performances as soccer-playing brothers dealing with their demons. First-time director Carlos Cuarón (writer of Y tu mamá también and brother of Alfonso, the director of también and Children of Men) weaves a story that parallels the game of soccer with life, relationships, and basically every other personal metaphor he could cram in there. The Blu-ray is simple, clean and easy to navigate, with the best special feature being the karaoke option to Cursi’s Mexican Country version of the Cheap Trick track “I Want You to Want Me”—which is certain to be entertaining when you are quite drunk. This Blu-ray is a rental unless you have an obsession with Bernal or Luna. (www.sonyclassics.com, www.sonypictures.com/bluray)
