Crocodiles
Summer of Hate
Fat Possum
Aug 11, 2009 Crocodiles
Bookended by two exciting tracks, the Jesus and Mary Chain-esque “I Wanna Kill,” and the seven-plus minute builder “Young Drugs,” Crocodiles’ first full-length for Fat Possum shows tons of potential. The San Diego duo of Charles Rowell and Brandon Welchez surfs along with fellow dirty fuzz-poppers Wavves in some respects, but expand on their smoggy, lo-fi, SoCal fun with more synths, programming, and a softer focus. Welchez is a veteran of The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, and both he and Rowell were members of The Prayers, as well as current contributors to the super-cool Skull Kontrol blog. Considering their solid debut, pedigree, and associates, I have very high hopes for the future. (www.myspace.com/crocodilescrocodilescrocodiles)
