The Errant Charm
Sub Pop
Jun 17, 2011 Vetiver
“Can’t You Tell” is an excellent pop song, a head-nodding, foot-tapping good time. Unfortunately, the rest of Vetiver’s fifth full-length album doesn’t quite live up to it. “Fog Emotion” rides a nice groove for a while, but ends up being too gentle for its own good, not building into anything bigger. The second half of The Errant Charm picks up the pace and the volume, which on vinyl, might have worked well—with a ‘quiet side’ and a ‘loud side.’ But, as a whole, The Errant Charm feels back-loaded and unsettled as a result.
