What else can you say about the brilliant last season of one of the most spectacular TV series of all time? Well, if you haven’t yet seen The Shield, it’s all on DVD now, and if you’re a fan of high drama and cop shows, then this show is a must. The corrupt Strike Team has fractured as Detective Vic Mackey (the intense Michael Chiklis) and Detective Shane Vendrell (Walton Goggins giving perhaps the best acting performance of 2008) battle it out on the streets of L.A., impacting the lives of everyone in their fucked-up paths. The less said the better, as the surprises and Shakespearean drama this Final Act provides is gut-wrenching and often heart-stopping…in a good way!

The Shield’s DVDs, as always, are excellent, featuring creator Shawn Ryan practically teaching you how to make a television show with commentaries on every episode. He’s joined by several members of the cast and crew in what is more like a family reunion, since many of them haven’t seen each other since the show wrapped. Also included are several deleted scenes for nearly every episode, viewable with or without commentary from Ryan, and a couple of behind-the-scenes featurettes. The only thing that prevents this set from receiving a 10/10 is the omission of the cast and crew interviews done by Elvis Mitchell, which aired on FX and online up until the premiere of this final season.
