Sweatbox Dynasty

Thomas Fec, better known by his stage name TOBACCO, makes music destined for abstract adjectives. Squishy, dirty, fuzzy, vibey, bouncy are each appropriate, if ultimately inadequate to describe the psychic dirge of his fourth solo record, Sweatbox Dynasty. Whatever strange non-musical term comes to mind when you hear it, there is that intangible thing that just makes it buzz with life and animation.
In fact, I always thought the name TOBACCO was so fitting his work. I don’t think any other words are even necessary. It is earthy, but not exactly healthy. Gross, but try resisting the cravings once you’ve indulged. Sweatbox
Dynasty may be unsettling to casual listeners, but deep in the heart of this record is a clandestine passion for melody and soulful grooves. Fec’s trademark synthesized vocals are much sparser than on previous records, leaving a lot of room for imagination and projection. It’s doubtful Sweatbox Dynasty will make it into anyone’s regular rotation, but Fec has no doubt carved himself out a cozy little corner of difficult trash music, and a visit now and then is worth the effort.
