Traffic Light
(FOX, Tuesdays 9:30/8:30 Central)
This relationship sitcom is really a lack of relationship show. Three guys-suspended in their “dude” years—are in relationships at various levels. Mike (David Denman, The Office) is married with a toddler, Adam (Nelson Franklin, I Love You, Man) has just moved in with his girlfriend, and the heavily made-up Ethan (Kris Marshall) won’t go past the three-week mark with a woman, but is deeply involved with his bulldog. The only relationships these guys are having is with each other, taking place mainly over their car speakerphones. This “casual” dialogue is forced in its mannered delivery. What they are doing with their ladies-who are of the pretty, fun, non-psycho variety—is lying, non-stop. This is all coupled with the dragging out of predictable situations, and the minutiae of disposable details is exhausting. The sad attempts at creating catch phrases i.e. “burn notice” and “bonerific” fall flat. What the show should do is shift focus, making the ladies the central characters, shoving the guys into the background. Considering the couples act like they don’t know each other, this shouldn’t be a big adjustment (www.fox.com/trafficlight)
