Having earned her art school bonafides and performed with the likes of Margaret Leng Tan and Oneohtrix Point Never, New York-based experimental composer and pianist Kelly Moran stated that she wanted to move experimental music away from the academic underpinnings of the genre and towards a more romantic ideal of free expression. On her third album, Ultraviolet, she finds the dilated wonder of spontaneous composition and hones her playful permutations down to a surprisingly concentrated work. The electro-acoustic compositions cascade and bend around cyclic phrases as the album deftly toes the line between impulse and revision. (www.warp.net/artists/kelly-moran)
