Rumor
has it that this adorable little songstress, by the name
of Mirah (Meer-ah) Yom Tov Zeitlyn, was born on top her parent's
kitchen table in Olympia, Washington. But regardless of her
origins, it is definite fact that this young lady has blossomed
into a very unique and gifted song writer/ musician. Advisory
Committee comes trailing on the heels of her beautiful debut
full-length, You Think It's Like This But
Itís Really Like This (2000) on K records,
which has won my heart and is now one of my favorites.

Once
again Mirah has gracefully transformed herself into a guitar-toting
cowgirl-heroine, on the opening track,"Cold Cold Water." Her
sure and sexy voice soars high over the galloping drums and
dramatic western style string arrangements, I'm so number one
that it's a shame that you let other numbers in the game. Mirah's
singing is undeniably seductive in its girlish innocence, especially
on "Make It Hot," where she steams up the windows
with her lyrics, "Take me over and over and over."
Like a traveler exploring every inch of the landscape, Mirah
does this in her music. From the volcanic rumblings and explosive
sounds of "Mt.
St. Helens," she treads into the lo-fi realm of "Recommendation." Next
we move into the medieval era, on "Special Death," Miss Mirah
plays the role of the brown-eyed daughter. Then she playfully swings into
a jazzy number about her burning desires and pyromaniac tendencies entitled, "Light
The Match" with accompaniment from her former outfit, The Hot Set,
and finally she marches into a politically charged folksy tune called, "Monument." All
this without missing a single beat.
Many, if not all of Mirah's songs, are seemingly based on honest and
intimate accounts of love found and love lost. Her words and voice so
powerfully
honest and touching that itís impossible not to connect with her
and feel with her. |
