A Conversation Between Bradford Cox and Laetitia Sadier
Oct 11, 2010
By John Everhart (Intro by and Moderated by)
Deerhunter and Atlas Sound’s Bradford Cox has long professed his love for Stereolab, in particular 1999’s Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night, his favorite album by the band. He went so far as to effusively explicate upon its merits on a Deerhunter blog post back in 2007. In an impassioned manner akin to the prime years of the fiery late gonzo journalist Lester Bangs, he also excoriated the publications that panned the album. More

Dinosaurs are totally rock and roll. Think about it: A group of outsiders appeared—seemingly out of nowhere—made a huge impact on history in a very short period, got wildly mixed reviews (Rock critics: direct descendents of cavemen?), and then vanished. In this context, it makes sense that the Los Angeles Natural History Museum would play host to musical acts during the first Friday of the Month program, kicking off the year with Under the Radar cover artist, Bradford Cox (aka Atlas Sound). Kurt Cobain once remarked caustically that he would only wear a tie-dyed t-shirt if it were made with “the urine of Phil Collins and the blood of Jerry Garcia.” Perhaps he was rolling over in his grave when Sufjan Stevens and his band opened the main stage of ATP day 2 decked out in oversized tie-dyes. Delivering a set comprised of 2004’s Seven Swans from start to finish, Stevens announced that, “this is a set for your hangovers.” More
