French singer/actress Charlotte Gainsbourg released a new album, Rest, late last year via Because Music. (It was our Album of the Week and was #15 in our Top 100 Albums of 2017 list.) Now she has shared a video for “Sylvia Says.” Gainsbourg directed the video herself. It’s a surreal affair that features people collapsing in the street in slow motion, Gainsbourg hanging out at a landfill, and the singer on a floating chair of disco balls. It doesn’t make much sense, but is fun to look at (which could be said about a lot of music videos). More

Day three of Coachella 2010 more than made up for a lackluster day two, with set after set of strong artists and ending with perhaps the three best performances of the whole festival, all in a row: Pavement, Thom Yorke, and Gorillaz. It would have been nice if the wealth of great artists had been spread out a little bit more over the three days, but then again, Sunday wouldn’t have been so strong if they had scheduled it that way. Here’s what I saw on the last day of Coachella: Local Natives, Owen Pallett, Mayer Hawthorne, Deerhunter, Florence and the Machine, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jonsi, Spoon, Phoenix, Pavement, Thom Yorke, and Gorillaz. Charlotte Gainsbourg sings in both French and English on Rest, her first album in seven years. As an actress, Charlotte Gainsbourg has made a career by placing herself in the hands of collaborators. In 2006, she took that theory into the studio for the first time in 20 years, working with Air, Jarvis Cocker, and Neil Hannon to create dreamy sophomore album 5:55. Now, four years later, Gainsbourg is back with a little help from a friend—this time, Beck. More
