Lux Prima Out Now via BMG

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Danger Mouse released a collaborative album, Lux Prima, last Friday via BMG. Last night the duo stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform the album’s “Woman,” but it wasn’t a typical late night performance. Instead noted film and music video director Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Her) directed the heavily choreographed black & white performance, which featured several dancers and even incorporated Colbert and the audience of The Late Show. This the closest we’ve come in awhile to skipping Songs of the Week due to a lack of truly worthy songs. But we were able to at least come up with a Top 7 (as opposed to our usual Top 10), even if it includes two covers and two album tracks. One thing that saved it was our #1 song, which was released this morning. More

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Danger Mouse have teamed up for a new song, “Lux Prima.” The string-backed lush epic is nine minutes long, features vocals from Karen O, and embraces a funkier vibe at around three-minute mark. The duo promises that it’s the first taste of a new collaborative album, although no details of the album have been given. More

Any doubts that one may have about Karen O (enigmatic lead singer of Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and artist/producer Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells, Gorillaz, etc.) making strange bedfellows are quickly dismissed upon hearing the imaginative and gratifying Lux Prima. More
