The basic idea of the issue was to talk to musicians and actors about various facets of their childhood/teenage years, from their first favorite bands/concerts to childhood memories to movies/TV shows of their youth, etc. We were interested in talking to musicians and actors about some of their earliest memories and their childhood passions. Many of the articles include childhood or teenage photos of the musicians interviewed. Mar 12, 2014

Despite the fact that Liars first came to notoriety as representatives of New York’s early 2000s dance-punk scene, they’ve never really made music fit for the dance floor. Too eccentric, too chaotic, too misanthropictheir albums have placed them firmly on the margins, forming an idiosyncratic catalog of sounds that are constantly changing in tone and texture while largely remaining the same in spirit. More

Mar 24, 2014

God bless Liars. While virtually everyone in the avant rock class of the Aughts (that loosely started with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and ended with HEALTH) either cleaned up their acts and graduated or just dropped out, Liars are streaking the graduation ceremony with booze on their breaths and middle fingers in the air. And yet the kind of envelope-pushing on Mess is nothing if not mature, simultaneously punk as fuck and utterly refined. More

Apr 22, 2010

This is not a Liars album. This is a sloppy gangbang of artists re-doing songs from Liars’ stellar new album, Sisterworld. There are a couple of bright spots, but the collection just doesn’t jive. I certainly adore most of the artists on the roster here and I doubt this is an attempt on Liars’ part to make a buck; it just feels unnecessary. More
