MGMT has unveiled the video for “Flash Delirium,” the first single off of sophomore album Congratulations (even though they supposedly weren’t releasing any singles from the album). The trippy video starts off innocently enough, with Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden being welcomed home to a big mansion, but soon it goes to some very dark and disturbing places. Let’s put it this way, creepy puppets and a hole in Goldwasser’s throat that sings aren’t the weirdest things in this clip. More

Fans of MGMT‘s breakout singles “Kids” and “Electric Feel” may not flip as many cartwheels for “Flash Delirium,” but here goes nothing… The Congratulations single is a head-scratching piece of psychedelia. During its 4:16 runtime we get snippets of Bowie, T. Rex, Ween, ‘60s California surf, Middle Eastern music, straight-up acid rock, and even a flute solo. On April 13 Brooklyn-based duo MGMT will release Congratulations, their nine-song sophomore album and the follow-up to Oracular Spectacular (which was released digitally in late 2007 and on CD in 2008). Day two of Coachella 2010 alas offered few highlights. This year Coachella has put way too many great artists on Sunday’s bill, which will inevitably lead to a lot of Sophie’s Choice-like moments of picking between which favorite artists to see. Whereas Saturday’s bill suffered from a lack of must see artists, there was no shortage of artists worth checking out, it’s just that few of them delivered. Matters were not helped by the fact that the best set I saw was also the first set I saw. Almost everything underwhelmed after that. More
