Day two of SXSW was a bit challenging, considering the lack of sleep we’d gotten the night before. Seeing a show at 1 a.m. is all well and good if you don’t have to wake up early the next morning to write about it or conduct other business. We weren’t able to attend any day parties on the second day of SXSW music 2010, due to two photo-shoots we were conducting, including one at the way too early hour of 10 a.m. (well, early for SXSW). But that night we were able to catch sets from two Canadian bands (including one collective who’s seemingly no longer broken), some Los Angeles natives, and a camera shy actress/singer. More

In a painfully cute marketing move, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel have teamed up for a music video promoting the national release of their film, (500) Days of Summer.
Soundtrack to Zooey Deschanel Film also Features Doves, Feist, and Hall & Oates
Jun 03, 2009By Laura Studarus
The Zooey Deschanel/Joseph Gordon-Levitt film (500) Days of Summer will be released in select theaters, July 17th. The film is a wry take on “boy meets girl” and an important scene in the movie features music from The Smiths as a plot device. Fittingly, the soundtrack includes a cover from Deschanel’s band with M. Ward, She & Him, of The Smiths’ “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.” More
Zooey Deschanel—Gimbels’ resident elf and half of the pop duo She & Him—is fast overtaking Mariah Carey as the Christmas Queen of North America. (In the U.K., that role is reserved for the actual queen.) She & Him’s first Christmas album, A Very She & Him Christmas, gets a 10th anniversary reissue in time for the 2021 holiday season, if a little earlier than required. Still, it’s a good excuse to get started on New Girl’s Christmas episodes. More
At long last, the legacy of She & Him, the passion project of guitar and studio wunderkind M. Ward and surprisingly good singer/actress Zooey Deschanel, was never going to be innovation. More

Coachella 2010 began under the cloud of an erupting volcano. Several of the European artists playing this year had to cancel their Coachella appearances due to the Icelandic volcano eruption grounding all flights from the U.K. and other parts of Europe. So day one of Coachella was greeted with the news that we wouldn’t be seeing Frightened Rabbit, Delphic, The Cribs (with Johnny Marr), or Gary Numan after all. And only a few days earlier Mew had already cancelled due to illness. So this year’s festival was already starting with some losses, Mew and Delphic probably being the most unfortunate ones. But while there were few artists playing Coachella 2010 who I both hadn’t seen before and was dying to see (Pavement being one of them), the lineup was still rigged with enough great artists so that I had little time to eat and take breaks between bands. Here’s what I saw during day one. More
