She & Him (Zooey Deschanel + M. Ward) have announced a new tribute tour in honor of The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson. The tour will kick off in June at the Paramount Theatre in Denver and conclude in September in Vienna at Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets will go on sale this Friday (Apr. 1) at 10 a.m. local time. More

Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and Jim James of My Morning Jacket have shared a new song, “Right Where I Belong.” It is to be featured on the original soundtrack for the film Long Promised Road, a documentary about Wilson’s life and career. The soundtrack will also feature unreleased songs and alternate versions of classics from Wilson. The film, directed by Brent Wilson (no relation to the film’s subject), is out now, and the soundtrack will be out this Friday (Nov. 26) via Lakeshore. More

Before they were signed to Capitol, The Beach Boys entered Hite and Dorinda Morgan’s home studio in 1961 and recorded nine tracks ranging from songs that would go on to become beloved classics in their canon (particularly “Surfer Girl”) and other well-known ones like “Surfin’” to utter obscurities like “Lavender,” “Judy,” “Beach Boy Stomp (Karate),” and “What Is a Young Girl Made Of” that were only released decades later on collections like the 1991 compilation Lost and Found 1961-2, a set that consisted of 21 songs from these sessions.
