Meric Long and Logan Kroeber are The Dodos. If you didn’t know this heading into a listen of their excellent second record, Visiter, you might be shocked. Vocalist/guitarist Long and drummer Kroeber kick a pretty large sound for just two guys, with Long’s deadpan, folksy vocals juxtaposed with a highly rhythmic base. More

Ten years on from their breakthrough second album, Visiter, Californian two-piece The Dodos have made what vocalist/guitarist Meric Long refers to as a “midlife crisis record.” This means a bold step away from some of the band’s earlier, more folk-driven material and a reckless yet rewarding dive into righteous racket. The Dodos have always been a pleasantly disarming mix of salty and sweet. Basic instrumentation expands to fill up vast amounts of space, both on the recordings and during their hypnotic live shows. More

Carrier is a transitional album for The Dodos, who lost guitarist Chris Reimer last year when he unexpectedly passed away from a heart condition. Fresh from their performance on one of the biggest stages at Austin City Limits, The Dodos stepped on to a small stage nestled into a corner of the Rock and Roll Hotel. Large enough to comfortably hold the three-piece setup, which includes a vibraphone and one thrashing Meric Long, the stage remained dwarfed by the sold out crowd pressed up against it. More
