At the Newport Folk Festival this past weekend none other than the legendary Kermit the Frog took the stage to perform his classic “Rainbow Connection” in honor of The Muppet Movie turning 40. He was joined by Jim James of My Morning Jacket on vocals and former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss on drums. More

This weekend at San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival The Muppets’ house band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, made their first ever live festival appearance. The band (Dr. Teeth, Animal, Janice, Floyd Pepper, Zoot, and Lips) performed “Can You Picture That?” from The Muppet Movie, as well as covers of The Mowgli’s’ “San Francisco,” Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Home,” and The Band’s “Ophelia.” Their performance culminated with The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends” for which they were joined by the Oakland Tabernacle Choir. ABC’s more adult, but still family friendly, revival of The Muppets has been fun, at least for thirty-something viewers who grew up on the original Muppet Show. It’s achieved a good balance between topical humor, with themes that will go over the heads of most child viewers, and the heart and soul that’s always made The Muppets such beloved characters. More

Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters guest stars on tonight’s episode of The Muppets, which airs on ABC at 8 PM Eastern. At the end of the episode Grohl has a drum off with Animal. And since the episode actually aired in Canada last night, video of the fun drum battle has surfaced online. Be warned that the below video includes the last three minutes of the episode, so if you’re a regular watcher of the show you may want to just wait until tonight. More
