Thom Yorke of Radiohead has shared a new solo song, “Hands Off the Antarctic.” The instrumental track was shared in conjunction with Greenpeace and via a video that shows off images of the Antarctic. Greenpeace is campaigning for a 700,000 square mile sanctuary for penguins, whales, and other Antarctic wildlife and this song is aimed to bring that cause to light. More

R.E.M. are releasing R.E.M. at the BBC on October 19 via Craft Recordings. It’s an 8-CD and 1-DVD box set that collects rare and unreleased live and studio recordings of the band done by the BBC over the years. Now they have shared a live recording of “E-Bow the Letter,” a song from their 1996 album New Adventures in Hi-Fi. The song was recorded in 2004 at St. James’ Church in London and features Thom Yorke of Radiohead on guest vocals. More

The official soundtrack for 2008’s Twilight wasn’t much to sniff about (kind of like the movie). Only a few scant cuts from blood letters Paramore and Linkin Park littered the tracklisting. Conversely, the marketing blitz for Twilight sequel New Moon has been nothing short of buzz-worthy and downright confusing. Busy man Thom Yorke has just announced another project. No really, does he ever sleep? This time, his work will be immortalized in video. As previously reported, Yorke has contributed a version of “All For the Best” to upcoming Mark Mulcahy tribute album, Ciao My Shinning Star (out September 29th ). Now the accompanying video will have its world premier at a September 20th benefit concert. More

Day three of Coachella 2010 more than made up for a lackluster day two, with set after set of strong artists and ending with perhaps the three best performances of the whole festival, all in a row: Pavement, Thom Yorke, and Gorillaz. It would have been nice if the wealth of great artists had been spread out a little bit more over the three days, but then again, Sunday wouldn’t have been so strong if they had scheduled it that way.
