Subscribe to the Last Great Indie Music Magazine for 25% Off
Plus 20% Off Back Issues
Under the Radar has been printing continuously for 23 years now and has outlasted most of the other print indie music magazines that were around when we started or that began publishing in the years since. We’ve tried our best to stick to our original ethos of simply championing the music we like, regardless of trends or financial concerns. You can still subscribe to the last great American indie music print magazine for 25% off and back issues remain 20% off. Promo codes are below.
Perhaps you’ve never subscribed to our print magazine and have only just discovered us (or only read our website). Or perhaps you used to be a subscriber and might be compelled to rejoin us. Or maybe you are a current subscriber, but would like to gift a subscription to someone or purchase a back issue you missed. Whatever the case, get 25% off now.
Almost all of our print articles and interviews premiere in print and stay exclusive to the print magazine for several months (or sometimes forever). None of the articles from our current print issue, The ‘90s Issue, have appeared online yet, for example. To get the full Under the Radar experience you need to subscribe.
Whether you grew up in the pre-internet era or just long to escape your electronic devices, there’s nothing like holding a well-crafted print magazine in your hands, one that features handsome design and original photography, rather than the same publicity shots found across the web.
If you like the bands and solo artists we cover and appreciate in-depth music journalism, then we might just be the magazine for you.
It hasn’t always been easy making it work financially as a truly independent print music magazine, as advertisers have gravitated towards spending their dollars on promoted social media posts and Google ads and as the market for print magazine sales on newsstands and at bookstore chains has shrunk. In recent years we’ve relied more and more on subscriptions and back issue sales to help fund future issues and to keep the day-to-day business running.
Our new print issue (Issue 73) will be announced soon and is about to ship out.
All new subscriptions start with Issue 74, which will be another one of our Protest Issues (we’ve done one every four years since 2004), where we examine the intersection of music and politics and do photo shoots with musicians holding protest signs of their own making. Then we auction the autographed signs for charity. We need to get that issue out before the election, but can’t if it isn’t funded in time. If your help we can make the deadline.
With our 25% off subscriptions sale you can get Under the Radar for only $3.28 an issue vs. the $7.99 regular cover price. Subscribe here.
That’s if you buy an 8-issue U.S. or Canadian subscription.
But even with a 4-issue U.S./Canada subscription each issue is only $3.75.
If you’ve never subscribed before or your subscription has lapsed, then this is a good opportunity to get on board and also save some money. Click the links below and once there make sure to click the “Apply Promo Code” button to receive the discounts.

Print isn’t dead, but it is on life support. Help support Under the Radar, the last great American indie rock print magazine still standing, and also save some money!
If you’re a fan of our magazine there are four ways you could help keep us funded and printing: subscribe, advertise, buy back issues, or support us on Patreon.
If all the monthly visitors to our website gave us only $1.00 a month on Patreon we wouldn’t even need advertising to fund the print magazine.
But if you do work at a label, music festival, or another company you feel would benefit from advertising in our print magazine, then you should reach out to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Unsigned artists can also advertise their music with us or place a track on our digital MP3 sampler that our readers can download via a code in each issue.
Under the Radar has been independently owned and printed by Mark and Wendy Redfern since our first issue in 2001. We’ve never bowed to corporate interests and have always simply written about the music we’re passionate about, regardless of trends. We put our life and soul into every issue, to make it the best that it can be, and have a loyal readership who eagerly anticipate each issue.
By subscribing to Under the Radar, you’ll not only connect with the music you love but also discover the joy of holding a beautifully crafted print magazine in your hands. As one of the few remaining print publications dedicated to indie rock music, we’re committed to providing you with a tactile and immersive reading experience that digital platforms simply cannot replicate.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of bringing our readers some of the most compelling content. From being the last magazine to interview the incomparable Elliott Smith before his tragic passing to introducing you to then rising talents like Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, The Last Dinner Party, and Wet Leg, we’ve remained at the forefront of discovering and showcasing exceptional artists.
In the last few years we’ve put out issues themed to favorite movies, favorite albums, the political/social causes important to musicians, and our 20th Anniversary. Subscribe now to be on board with what’s next for Under the Radar’s print magazine.
Each issue usually features interviews with 20 to 30 different musical artists, reviews of 20 to 50 new albums, and a free MP3 download sampler that includes up to 40 songs.
In recent years the following artists have appeared on our print covers: Weyes Blood, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Sharon Van Etten, Kamasi Washington, Angel Olsen, Ezra Furman, HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, Moses Sumney, Japanese Breakfast, Sleater-Kinney, Ezra Furman, boygenius, CHVRCHES, Nilüfer Yanya, Bat For Lashes, Miki Berenyi, Julien Baker, and more.
