Under the Radar Reviews The Goodtime Hotel

Why Pharrell Williams and David Grutman’s Art Deco Oasis Is The Perfect Getaway For Music Lovers

The Goodtime Hotel, the brainchild of Miami nightlife and restaurant entrepreneur David Grutman and music visionary Pharrell Williams, is even more trendy and fashionable than its founders intended. From the chic pink décor (which includes classic rotary dial phones in every room) to the hand-painted murals, the playful Art Deco-inspired space was crafted by designer Ken Fulk, architect Morris Adjmi and landscape architect Raymond Jungles.

Since opening in 2021, the Goodtime Hotel has become a Miami Beach mainstay for one solid reason: it epitomizes modern luxury cool. Just two blocks west of Ocean Drive, this 266-room property is not just aesthetically pleasing but also the perfect getaway for music lovers.

From Ultra Music Festival To III Points to Rolling Loud Miami, the city boasts some of the most popular music events in the world. Patrons need a convenient place to stay without sacrificing comfort in the process. Under The Radar had the pleasure of experiencing the Goodtime hotel firsthand–check out the highlights of our stay below.

Day Party Option: Strawberry Moon

The Goodtime Hotel’s swim club and pool bar, Strawberry Moon, is an oversized music sanctuary at 24,000-square-feet. Private cabanas and cozy chaise lounges are enclosed by lush greenery, while pinstriped white and teal couches and pink banquette tables are solid touches to an already impressive space. It is also home to regular pool parties where celebrity DJs spin the biggest party hits.

From DJ Don Hot to Steve Aoki to Black Coffee, some of the most notable names in entertainment have graced Strawberry Moon, which was always part of Pharrell’s plan from the very beginning. “We want The Goodtime Hotel to impart a feeling of both revitalization and that rare, exciting thrill that takes over when you discover something special,” he said in a press release when the hotel first opened. “It’s that adrenaline-fueled sensation of entering a whole new setting and a whole new mindset. This place will provide a natural good time for all who come through.” Pharrell himself recommends his favorite drink from the pool bar, the violet-colored “Purple Reign.”

Best Onsite Room: Goodtime Hotel King Suite

The most decadent option at the Goodtime Hotel would be the king suite. All rooms at the property are decked out with rotary phones and custom curtains plastered with face sketches drawn by hotel designer Ken Fulk and Nespresso machines. Several rooms allow for prime viewing of Biscayne Bay or the Atlantic Ocean, as well as to the property’s pool area. Despite being the bigger option out of the accommodations, the suite is still designed to be super-efficient with advantageous storage and merely a shower in the bathroom.

Between festival sets and star-studded after parties, relaxation is built into every crevice of the room, from the leopard-print benches to its matching robes that are available for purchase. Did we mention that guests are greeted with a glass of Prosecco at check-in?

Post-Event Grub Spot: Strawberry Moon Restaurant

Goodtime’s onsite restaurant contains a sophisticated ambiance that is present throughout the hotel. Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, the Strawberry Moon Restaurant offers patrons an array of classic dining options to feast on while resting in between events. Its inspirations are clear, as evidenced by its scalloped bar seats and pastel tiling that evoke images of Acapulco and Havana.

From the crisp malted waffle to spicy honey chicken wings to the skirt steak frites, every offering is savory and full of flavor and will definitely leave customers craving seconds. The drinks are also palatable as well. In addition to “Purple Reign,” concoctions like “Strawberry Moon Forever” brilliantly blends the signature fruit with sōtō sake while “Art Basil” capitalizes on the herb’s tastiness combined with vodka and ginger beer.

Neighborhood Highlights

The Goodtime Hotel’s prime location is one of its most enticing features. Being right in the heart of Miami’s Art Deco Historic District proves advantageous. Not only is it just steps away from the scenic South Beach which boasts a variety of shops, bars, and tourist attractions, but it’s a convenient drive from the city’s most infamous hotspots.

LIV, one of Miami’s hottest nightclubs, is just a 15 minute drive away from the property and consistently hosts an impressive roster of talent. Artists like Metro Boomin, Lil’ Baby, Sexyy Red, GloRilla and more have graced its stage in the last year. Goodtime is also a 10 minute drive away from Mareva1939, an exquisite gem of a restaurant that specializes in authentic Spanish cuisine.

Located inside of the illustrious National Hotel, Mareva’s aura speaks for itself. The eatery, which is semi-outdoor, is stunningly charming with its candlelit tables enveloped by palm trees overlooking the hotel’s infinity pool. Not only is their waitstaff friendly, diverse and extremely knowledgeable about the food they serve, but they have no problem engaging in friendly banter and even taking photos for guests who want to capture their dining experience.

Some of Mareva1939’s most memorable dishes include the flavorful Paleta de Jamon Ibérico, their festive take on Kale Salad, tender rib eye and various paellas. The establishment is known for exceptionally fresh seafood, so its seafood parillada with Maine lobster, langostinos, octopus legs and scallops is absolutely a must.
