We sent out the same set of Halloween-related questions to a bunch of different musicians. All Halloween week we are posting their responses. Here are some spooky answers from Generationals, Cayucas, Morcheeba, TRAAMS, and Devon Sproule.

What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?

A couple of years ago we were on tour opening for Mates of State. We got to do one on the night before Halloween and another one the night of Halloween. Everyone dressed up. Ted [Joyner] was the swamp monster from our “Yours Forever” video. I got a full set of football pads and a helmet and sang the whole show through my facemask. One of us was a vampire. Mates were all dressed up as jailbirds with Kori [Gardner] as the one cop. The shows were really fun. Our fans are the bestI remember meeting a couple dressed up perfectly as Jerry and Elaine in St. Louis.

What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?

Once when I was younger I was going for a cheesy ‘70s vibe and I had a big fake mustache, but the glue had worn off, so I stuck it onto my lip with regular superglue and all night I was just breathing these glue fumes and getting dizzy. It was a disaster. I was in a band and we had a Halloween show that night, so of course I had to keep it going. The worst thing you can do is give up on your costume or quit on your costume too early. You have to be all-in to really do it right. I stayed all-in and lost a good amount of brain cells that night.

What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?

Undercover narcotics cop: aviators, mustache, blue task force T-shirt, all under a dashiki with a dreadlock wig.

What have you always wanted to dress up as for Halloween but never had the guts and/or resources to pull off?

I got my big longtime Halloween idea back when I used to work on film sets. I want to dress up as a boom operator, which is the person on a film set who holds the microphone over the actors with that long pole. They usually have headphones and certain belt packs and cargo shorts that they use to hold other equipment. I want to have that entire rig with a functioning microphone recording sound, and just walk around at a Halloween party holding the boom over people, recording them talk to each other. And then the next day, get the juiciest parts and blackmail people. Win-win.

What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?

I dressed up as Hunter S. Thompson to go to a Halloween party at The Magic Castle in Hollywood. I found the clothes in an army surplus store (best place to find original costumes). I filled my head with the appropriate chemicals too. Picture attached before the party and another at the party with Jimi Hendrix.

What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?

When I was a kid in the U.K. I tried out a Jedi vibe but it really just looked like me in a brown dressing gown.

What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?

I was thinking Liberace. It’s gonna be a fucking pain in the ass wheeling the piano around, though.

What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?

I dressed up as Henry Rollins once. I drew on all his tattoos and walked around in just shorts. It was freezing and I looked nothing like him.

What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?

I dressed up as Fred Flintstone another time. I looked more like him than Rollins but it was irrelevant and a bit boring.

What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?

This year I’ll probably give it a miss, though if I did I’d give Greg Ginn or Barney Rubble a go, I think.

What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?

Probably a flying tiger when I was 5, but a few years ago I dressed up as my friend Danny Schmidt and that was pretty much a smash too. Dressing up as recognizable friends is the best. I did a Samhain ritual with some folks in southern Virginia when I was a teenager and it was wonderful. Thinning the veil! I remember that the soup we ate afterwards tasted better than anything else I’d ever eaten.

What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?

Bloody nun. I think I was 11 or something.

What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?

Ack! I haven’t even thought about it. Maybe Santa Claus?

What have you always wanted to dress up as for Halloween but never had the guts and/or resources to pull off?

Santa Claus.

What’s your favorite scary movie?

Sheepishly, I don’t ever watch them. I’ve seen The Silence of the Lambs but mostly with my ears plugged. Probably the scariest was that Spanish movie REC but I wasn’t actually watching it. I was in the other room, trying not to listen to all the screaming.

What’s your favorite spooky song?

I like that Tom Lehrer song that starts, “I hold your hand in mine, dear, I press it to my lips/I take a healthy bite from your dainty fingertips/My joy would be complete, dear, if you were only here/But still I keep your hand as a precious souvenir.” I don’t know what it’s called [“I Hold Your Hand in Mine”].
