My Favorite New Band: Generationals on Springtime Carnivore
Generationals Alix Out Now on Polyvinyl; Springtime Carnivore's Self-Titled Debut Out November 4 on Autumn Tone
Oct 03, 2014 Generationals
Who better to give us all tips on new music than accomplished musicians themselves. For this series we have asked more established artists one simple request: tell us who your new favorite band is. For this My Favorite New Band Grant Widmer of the duo Generationals tells us about their tour mate/opening act, Springtime Carnivore (aka Greta Morgan). Generationals’ lineup is rounded out by Ted Joyner and their fourth album, Alix, was just released via Polyvinyl. Springtime Carnivore’s self-titled debut album is out November 4 on Autumn Tone. Richard Swift produced both albums.
One of the best ways for bands to find out about other bands is to tour. Speaking for my own band, most of the time we’re in our own heads, writing and practicing our own music. It’s easy to lose track of what’s going on and what new things are getting started, so we always look forward to touring because we get exposed to a lot of things we’ve missed. We found Springtime Carnivore when we were looking around for an opener for our fall tour and we just really loved the music. The band seems brand new—I don’t think they even have a full record out yet, I think just a 7”—but it’s just locked in right from the start, which is so rare for such a young project. It’s got the right combination of familiar elements with new ones, a fresh take on a form that we already love. They’re already making the rounds as an opener for of Montreal, Le Sera, even The Zombies, but we couldn’t resist so we asked them along for our tour too.
