Parson James

Under the Radar Presents: “Why Not Both” Podcast Featuring Parson James

Feb 11, 2021

Every week, in partnership with Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

Our guest Parson James knew something was up when his 2020 vision board kept falling off the wall in the middle of the night. We got to catch up on this transformative time as he pulled off signing a record deal, going through intensive trauma therapy, and navigating a proper pandemic “situationship.” When he’s not writing hit songs, Parson is an outspoken mental health and LGBTQ+ advocate through his work with the LoveLoud Foundation and we love that he spreads the message of love and self-acceptance in a time when we all need it most.

For updates, be sure to follow Why Not Both on Instagram and Twitter. For previous episodes, including Tegan and Sara, Harvey Guillén, and Deerhoof, click over to our streaming options, or join us on YouTube.

For more from Parson, follow him on Instagram and Twitter. His new single “High Tide, Low Tide” is available now, as is his cool new merch.

Under the Radar Presents: “Why Not Both” Podcast Featuring Reggie Watts

Feb 04, 2021

Yup, we’re back! Every week, in partnership with Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

Reggie Watts is famous for his improvisational skills so it was no surprise that we had a delightful time talking about literally everything that popped in our heads. From his brilliant project WattsApp to his collaboration with fellow genius Marc Rebillet and his work on The Late Late Show, Watts is always striving to create community and connection with his art. After all, as he told us, creation is a cooperative dance with chaos.

Baio

Under the Radar Presents: “Why Not Both” Podcast Featuring Baio

Jan 28, 2021

Yup, we’re back at it! Every week, in partnership with Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

In our season opener, we spent time with Chris Baio, exploring what it means to release his new solo album during a year of tumultuous events. Baio is used to being on tour nonstop with Vampire Weekend and was looking forward to making good on his New Year’s resolution to produce other artists in his new studio, but instead found himself accidentally exploring life as a kayaking bearded outdoorsman in Oregon. We all got a little weird in 2020 but we are glad that it resulted in some new songs and only a few questionable hair choices.

For updates, be sure to follow Why Not Both on Instagram and Twitter. For previous episodes, including Tegan and Sara, Future Islands, and Icona Pop, click over to our streaming options, or join us on YouTube.

For more from Baio, visit him on Instagram and Twitter or swing by his official site. His third solo album Dead Hand Control is out this Friday on Glassnote. In the meanwhile, revisit the single “Take it From Me.”

Tegan and Sara

Under the Radar Presents: “Why Not Both” Podcast Featuring Tegan and Sara

Dec 09, 2020

Welcome to Why Not Both Wednesdays. Every week, in partnership with the Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

In our last episode of 2020, we spent some virtual time in Vancouver with Tegan and Sara, who managed to accidentally get stuck in the same city just in time to work on a million lockdown projects together. Between writing a graphic novel and crafting a new album just after the release of their memoir, they also managed to raise $100k through their nonprofit foundation in order to help the vulnerable communities that have been most affected by COVID. In a time of chaos, it’s comforting to know that Tegan and Sara have been busy cooking up new projects, even while they are obsessively watching Ticktok just like the rest of us.

For updates, be sure to follow Why Not Both on Instagram and Twitter. For previous episodes, including Future Islands, Phantogram, and Perfume Genius, click over to our streaming options, or join us on YouTube.

For more from the Quin family, be sure to stop by their Instagram, Twitter, or learn more about the Tegan and Sara Foundation. Their memoir High School is out now.

Under the Radar Presents: “Why Not Both” Podcast Featuring Tawny Newsome and Bethany Thomas

Dec 03, 2020

Welcome to Why Not Both Wednesdays. Every week, in partnership with the Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

We caught up with Tawny Newsome and Bethany Thomas to chat about their brilliant album Material Flats and how life was treating these two talented multi-hyphenates. While they were lucky and got to record the album together earlier this year, these two have spent the better part of 2020 having virtual television show premieres, navigating online theater, and learning when to take a moment to pause. From learning to engineer their own record to putting out podcasts, we are glad that they are taking a cue from the indoor kids on how to create during these strange times.

For updates, be sure to follow Why Not Both on Instagram and Twitter. For previous episodes, including Alison Mosshart, Alice Bag, and Deerhoof, skip over to our wealth of streaming options, or join us on YouTube.

For more on Tawny Newsome and Bethany Thomas, hit them up on their respective Twitter feeds or Instagram accounts. Their debut album Material Flats is out now.

Nov 19, 2020

Welcome to Why Not Both Wednesdays. Every week, in partnership with the Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

We caught up with Harvey Guillén, aka everyone’s favorite familiar Guillermo from the brilliant FX series What We Do in the Shadows. Between safely filming on set in Canada and delving into the world of voice acting, Harvey has been staying busy, keeping himself (and the rest of us) entertained as quarantine drags on. From the importance of representation in the media to the joys of binge watching, Harvey’s take on 2020 is both hilarious and insightful, which is our personal favorite combination.

Nov 12, 2020

Welcome to Why Not Both Wednesdays. Every week, in partnership with the Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

Before the world shut down, Ólafur Arnalds started crafting his brilliant new album Some Kind Of Peace. Little did he know that it would be anthemic for a time when we are all tuning into our inner world for better or worse. We loved getting to hear about how he’s been rediscovering his own inner and outer landscapes writing in Reykjavik and learning from his example that to really create our best work, we sometimes have to get a little bit obsessed.
