Welcome to Why Not Both Weekends. While we’re on lockdown, we’ll be presenting the occasional Saturday episode of the Why Not Both podcast, which explores how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.

Wilson chatted about why her role as a mental health advocate has been so rewarding and how we all struggle with the delicate balance of doing too little or too much. She also touched on one of the deepest rivalries of all: New York vs. LA.

Alfred. Shares Video for New Track “PRNDL/DR. CALL”

Mar 31, 2020

Richmond-based “dark gospel” rapper Alfred. has shared a video for their new single “PRNDL/DR. CALL” off of their forthcoming EP One Trick Pony, due out March 27 via Topshelf. Alternating footage between intimately shot close-ups and backdrops of vast expanses, the video hones in on a paradox that the song’s dual tendencies of harshness and reverence deepen. The song is divided into two parts, the second movement a sort of weathered descent from the jagged heights of the first, blending the pastoral and the industrial into a singular vision of rap that is just getting started. Check out the video, as well as pre-order link below.

Consider her love of bird watching and quiet observation a lesson to us all to slow down and tune in while we have the chance.

Various Artists

New Compilation of Neil Young Covers by Various Artists to Benefit RAICES

Mar 02, 2020

A conglomeration of disparate sounding, but ultimately united Richmond, Philadelphia, and New York artists have shared a set of Neil Young covers to inject some much needed radical optimism into our hearts and to raise funds for RAICES, an organization dedicated to providing legal and educational support to immigrants and refugees. The guiding light of radically optimistic troubadour Neil Young’s back catalog is refracted by the likes of Adult Mom, Gnawing, Bunny Boy, Pressed Orchid and many more to provide a timely riposte to fashionable pessimism. The name of the compilation is Look Out for My Love and features cover art by Ajah Courts.
