Gruff Rhys
Super Furry Animals/Neon Neon frontman Gruff Rhys has announced the premiere of a new project, South American documentary, Separado! Directed by Rhys and Dylan Goch, the film documents Rhys’ road trip to reunite with long lost Patagonian uncle, guitarist Rene Griffiths. Rhys also has a new collaborative album due out. Stereolab
Stereolab announced after the conclusion of the Chemical Chords tour last year that they’d be going on an indefinite hiatus. Now the dark side of the Chemical Chords sessions are due to be released as an album entitled Not Music and due on November 16 on Drag City.

This weekend saw the release of the new full-length, crazy, weird, gets-better-every-time-you-watch-it trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Edgar Wright’s (Shaun of the Dead) adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s series of graphic novels about a self-deprecating twentysomething (Michael Cera) who must defeat the seven evil ex-boyfriends of the girl he loves, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Spoon
To fill the arena-sized hole in your heart left by U2’s recent cancellations, Arcade Fire have announced their first U.S. headlining tour since 2007’s Neon Bible trek. The dates coincide with the August 3rd release of their third LP Suburbs on Merge Records, and feature their labelmates Spoon as main support on the Philly, NYC, Columbia, and Atlanta shows.

This weekend The Loft, on SIRIUS channel 29 and XM channel 50, will broadcast a tribute show to Big Star’s Alex Chilton, featuring the surviving members of Big Star along with R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, Sondre Lerche, Brendan Benson, and others.

Turns out U2 leader Bono’s influence is stronger than anyone thought. In addition to bringing attention to third-world debt (good) and attention to the AIDS pandemic (also good) it appears he, or rather his back, has the power to reroute indie rock tours. Just ask Interpol.
