Back in the day, or the early oughties, Andrew Bird had a capable backing band called Bowl of Fire. The band unofficially disbanded in 2003 but Bird’s first three LPs featured their genre-shifting talents. The nearly flawless and very underappreciated The Swimming Hour was their third and final effort as a unit. Now Bird’s self-dubbed “jukebox album” is being re-released October 20th, via Ryko. More

Sufjan Stevens Previews “The BQE” With Video Excerpt

The multimedia set is set to include audio of the 2007 song suite, a Super Teenage Hooper Heroes comic book, a View-Master reel and a DVD brimming with dusty footage of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway from Stevens himself. DC Comics and Warner Bros. Forms New Film Division: DC Entertainment

DC Comics has a rich 74-year history of characters, many of which have remained untapped when it comes to theatrical films or live action TV shows. While Superman has had five feature films and Batman has been portrayed in seven live action big screen adventures (if you count the 1960s Adam West Batman film), many iconic characters have languished in film development hell, including Wonder Woman and The Flash. DC and Warner Bros. (who are both owned by the same Time Warner parent company) have now taken a page from rival Marvel Comics’ book and are forming a separate company named DC Entertainment that will help develop DC’s characters into other entertainment mediums, especially films and television shows. Marvel was recently bought by Disney, but even before that they had their own film division. More

Asobi Seksu to Release Acoustic Album

Shoegazing duo Asobi Seksu (vocalist Yuki Chikudate and guitarist James Hanna) is set to release a new acoustic album entitled Rewolf. The album is due out November 10th via Polyvinyl and will feature ten acoustic versions of songs from all three of the band’s previous full-lengths, as well as songs that were originally B-sides. Rewolf also features a cover of Hope Sandoval’s “Suzanne.” With the release the band replaces their signature sonic assault and layers of guitars with new arrangements utilizing acoustic instruments. More
