The Drums
The Most Anticipated Albums of 2010 section in Under the Radar‘s Winter 2010 Issue includes a short article on The Drums’ debut album. We’ve now posted the full Q&A of that interview with the band. I caught up with Brooklyn via Florida act The Drums in mid-January at their East Williamsburg apartment, somewhere between the moribund Marcy projects and the urbane bastion of hipness that is Bedford Avenue. Apropos, given that the band seem like misfits in today’s Brooklyn scene, their insular milieu wedged somewhere between such somber Factory Records acts as The Wake and blithe ‘50s surf culture dreams.

Phantogram
NYC trio The Antlers are still getting a lot of mileage out of last year’s critically-acclaimed album Hospice. The band has two U.S. tours lined up for the spring and summer. First they’ll hit the road with Barsuk Records’ Phantogram later this month and into early May. Then in June they’ll have some dates opening up for The National, who will be releasing High Violet next month. We have the dates and a recent video for “Bear.”

Aziz Ansari
Oh, April Fools Day. The one day of year when hipsters and tweens alike can come together to enjoy cheep jokes about Justin Bieber (which the teen idol is in on). Thanks to Funny or Die (today: “Bieber or Die,” as Bieber has apparently bought the site and turned into a fan site) for bringing us all together with this clip where Raaaaaaaandy (Aziz Ansari) claims that Bieber’s hit “Baby” is really just a rip-off of his potential smash hit, “Baby Baby.” Also involved? Pot Smoking, knee shooting, studio trashing. Watch carefully for TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek and Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner who appear as Raaaaaaaandy’s backing band.
