Sea Wolf Escapes To Omaha For Sophomore Release

Alex Brown Church crafts music fit for the open road so it’s fitting that he got the name for his group from Jack London’s Sea-Wolf. Like London has always surrounded himself by the claustrophopic bustle of the city but enjoys the air of the countryside on his cheek. After living in L.A. the Sea Wolf frontman has packed his bags and trekked to Canada’s second largest city, Montreal. Citing its “multi-cultural aura” as inspiration, Church started working on the follow-up to his promising Dangerbird Records debut Leaves in the River. The forthcoming album is untitled at the moment but will be released sometime in September on Dangerbird and his being recorded in Omaha by Mike Mogis.

Everything Goes Wrong for Vivian Girls’ Second LP

The last time we checked in with the unstoppable touring force known as Vivian Girls they were working hard on the follow-up to last year’s eponymous debut. On September 8th we’ll finally eat (or hear) the fruits of the gals’ labors during a six-day stint at L.A.‘s The Distillery. That’s the day Everything Goes Wrong hits the street running. The Girls claim that they weeded out a boatload of tracks for a 35-minute sophomore release. That’s nearly epic in Vivian Girls terms!

Jay Bennett, Formerly of Wilco, Dies at 45

Jay Bennett, a former Wilco contributor, was pronounced dead this past Sunday according to a Chicago Sun-Times blog. Bennett was one of the original touring members and acted as a multi-instrumentalist for the band, collaborating with Jeff Tweedy until their perfectionist tendencies clashed during recording for the 2002 album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
