Amanda Palmer has shared a new song, “Everybody Knows Somebody,” that addresses gun violence in America and the continuing wave of mass shootings. She’s also shared a black & white video of her performing the song live in her house (in which she encourages the viewer to sing along). Listen to the song and watch the video below.
Palmer had this to say about the song in a press release: “This song was written in response to the insanity going on in our country. Gun violence and the deaths of ordinary people all over America is becoming NORMAL. IT ISN’T NORMAL. Let’s call it what it is: a public health crisis. Too many senseless deaths. Too much pointless tragedy that could be avoided with better, safer, smarter gun laws.”
100% of the proceeds to the song are being donated to www.changetheref.org, which is a non-profit put together by Manuel and Patricia Oliver, parents of Joaquin Oliver, who was killed during the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Manuel also did the artwork for the “Everybody Knows Somebody” single.
Palmer released a new album, There Will Be No Intermission, back in March via 8 Ft. Records/Cooking Vinyl.
