Former Dresden Doll Amanda Palmer and her new backing band The Grand Theft Orchestra have announced that their recently teased new album will be called Theater Is Evil and will see release on Sept. 11. Supporting the new album Palmer and the band will be embarking on a 35-date international tour, one that will utilize an array of interactive technologies to create a one-of-a-kind stage experience.
Crowd-sourcing everything from musicians to family photos and other personal artifacts, producer, production designer, theatrical director, and band drummer Michael McQuilken says “I find Amanda’s hyper-inclusive relationship with her audience to be hugely inspiring. Her fans aren’t distant observers, they’re family. So I’ve been working on ways to make the fans and their contributions the primary motivation for all of our production decisions. Each new audience will have an experience unique to them. You’ll have to come to the show to find out more.”
According to Plamer, “It’s Rocky-Horror-meets-Scavenger-Hunt-meets-Interactive-Art-Happening ... just my cup of tea. It’ll take a ton of work to rehearse a whole new set of folks every afternoon, but it’s a great way to feel connected to the city we’re in.”
You can view the full list of performances below, as well as listen to a Theater Is Evil love song entitled, “The Killing Type.”
