Angel Deradoorian is perhaps best known as the former bassist/vocalist in Dirty Projectors. She’s also performed in Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks and collaborated with Flying Lotus, Vampire Weekend, Björk, Matmos, The Roots, and more. Now she’s set to release The Expanding Flower Planet, her debut solo album due out August 21 via Anitcon. It will be released simply under her last name, Deradoorian. She has shared the album’s opening track, “A Beautiful Woman,” which you can stream below.

Roughly 90% of The Expanding Flower Planet was written and recorded solely by Deradoorian. The album was recorded over several years, starting in 2011 at a studio in Baltimore and then moving to her home studio in Los Angeles. A press release says the album was influenced by such artists as Alice Coltrane, Can, Terry Riley, and Dorothy Ashby. Deradoorian actually released a solo EP, Mind Raft, way back in 2009. Check out “A Beautiful Woman” below, followed by the album’s tracklisting and cover art.
