Animal Collective Postpone Tour
Avey Tare Suffering From Strep Throat

Animal Collective
After cancelling a number of shows last week, Animal Collective have decided to pull the plug on their remaining North American tour this March. With plans to reschedule the shows, the cause for the postponement is “an intense case of strep throat” ailing Avey Tare, who issued a letter of apology to fans:
To all of the AC fans out there. I feel its best you hear it right from the horses mouth. It kills me to have to postpone all these shows and it’s something I could never even have imagined happening. I’m positive that we were as excited as you all to visit all of your towns and have a good time together. But because of the strain on my voice that’s being caused by an intense case of strep throat, I am unable to play any of these shows. Unfortunately, I wasn’t diagnosed soon enough and haven’t been able to kick this in the right amount of time. We promise you all that we are doing everything we can to reschedule all these shows asap and we will be visiting your cities. We hope you can all understand and sympathize with the situation. It’s been really fun for all of us to be playing these days and the energy you all give us makes us want to take it further and further with you and give it right back. Hopefully, we can continue to do this together soon. Until then. Stay Well.
Dan Deacon, who was sloted to open for Animal Collective posted his own message regarding the cancelled dates:
i’m sure many of you are upset and bummed out by this. i know exactly how you feel because i feel that way too, probably way more so. i’ve been looking forward to this tour for many months. i’ve never gone on a tour like this. i’ve always wanted to go on a tour like this. many of the shows would of been the biggest ones i’ve ever played in most of these cities. i’m not sure i’ll get an opportunity like this again and it a huge disappointment that tour had to unravel this way. but of course i support dave’s difficult choice to take time off for his health. i know first hand how stressful it can be to have be ill or in pain on the road and have to make the call to not do a show. its a choice no one wants to be faced with. i’m really glad we got to play a few shows on this tour. AC and their crew were super awesome and the show was a really solid one. I really hope we can make up as many of the shows as possible.
if we could of continued the tour on our own we would of. since we were riding in their bus and all of our gear is in their truck we were held to their schedule. even if we had our gear, renting a van and putting together a last minute tour the week after sxsw would of been an almost impossible hell. luckily we just recently played almost all of these cities on our last tour but i still of course hope we can do the make up dates. Thanks again for your understanding in this situation and your continued support of the music.
At the moment Animal Collective look to resume touring in May.
