Arca has announced a new, self-titled, album and shared its first single, “Piel.” Arca is due out April 7 via XL. Below you can listen to “Piel,” followed by a brief alternate version of the song. Also below is the album’s tracklist and cover art (by Jesse Kanda).
Arca is his third album and the first one where the Venezuela-born, London-based artist’s voice is front and center. He has also announced his biggest headlining show to date, at London’s Roundhouse on April 28 (tickets go on sale this Friday).
Arca had this to say about the album in a press release: “Here’s my voice and all my guts: feel free to judge it. It’s like a bullfight: you’re watching emotional violence for pleasure. So this is a character who, almost as a mockery of the transaction, goes uncomfortably deep, into self-mutilation. ‘You want gore? Here’s gore’”
