Arcade Fire, James Murphy Collaboration Confirmed
Working Together on New Arcade Fire Album
Dec 07, 2012 Arcade Fire
Confirmation has come forth that LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy is currently working with Arcade Fire on their upcoming album. According to a feature in Music Week on the Arcade Fire management team, Arcade Fire manager Scott Rodger tossed out word that “They’re in with James Murphy on three or so songs, plus Markus Dravs who is a long-time collaborator. They write too many songs - that’s a good problem to have. There’s around 35 songs with Arcade Fire, two albums’-worth for sure.”
Rumors of Murphy and Arcade Fire joining forces have circulated for years, with Murphy previously linked to produce their last two albums. “Before Neon Bible [was recorded] I went to Montreal and hung out with them. We talked about doing the record but it just didn’t work out,” Murphy told BBC Music 6 in 2010, adding, “I took an extra year off but so did they, so when it was time to make [the new LCD Soundsystem] record, they were making theirs.”
Preferring to simply work on a few tracks together seems to fall in line with an interview Murphy did with The Huffington Post earlier this year: “[Arcade Fire] don’t need a producer. They produce themselves.”
