Arcade Fire Share “Baby Mine” Cover from Tim Burton’s New “Dumbo” Movie

Dumbo Due Out March 29 via Disney; Betty Noyes Sang the Original Version of the Song

Mar 11, 2019 Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire‘s last album, 2017’s Everything Now, featured a song named after Peter Pan. Now their Disney connection has gotten deeper with their new track, “Baby Mine,” which plays during the end credits of the movie studio’s new live action version of the 1941-released animated classic Dumbo. Tim Burton has helmed the new version, which stars several actors he’s worked with before, including Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Alan Arkin, and Eva Green, as well as Colin Farrell. “Baby Mine” was also featured in the original Dumbo, as sung by Betty Noyes and written by Ned Washington (lyrics) and Frank Churchill (music), and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The new Dumbo is due out March 29. Listen to Arcade Fire’s “Baby Mine” below, followed by the original version of the song.

Arcade Fire’s Win Butler had this to say about the track in a press statement: “My mom plays the harp on the track, my brother the theremin, my wife [Régine Chassagne] sings and plays drums, and our son even plays the triangle, as well as the rest of our ‘family’ in Arcade Fire. I will forever relate to the song thinking about the people I hold so dear that are so precious to me. Listen for the cameo of my grandpa Alvino’s famous Sonovox at the end.”

Fun fact: Betty Noyes was the uncredited singing voice for Debbie Reynolds for two songs in Singin’ in the Rain.
